Kanjirapally is considered to be one of the important centres of Ayurvedic treatment. During the reign of Thekkumkoor Rajas Kadamapuzha and Madukakuzhi families in Kanjirapaly were renowned for Ayurvedic treatment. Madukakuzhi family had settled down in the Kachaketty Purayidam north of the old church, Akkarapalli, by the side of the common route from the royal palace to the Hindu temple. This purayidam or plot of land is conveniently situated on the eastern bank of Chittar. This house plot is now in the possession of Shri. M. C. Thomas Madukakuzhi, a member of the family. Tradition says that some of the youngsters in the family were members of the Rajas Army and they managed to train the Rajas selected group, in the art of fighting and martial devices. The name Kachaketty Purayidam was changed to Pachavetty Purayidam in course of time by frequent use. |
