Health AYURVEDA

During the past three decades since India has achieved Independence, we have experienced a prolific growth of health institutions, heretofore unsurpassed in the history of hospitals. Now we have a good number of hospitals in and around Kanjirapally and all of them are striving hard to keep up a high ethical Standard. To a historian the first name that comes to mind is the Government Taluk Headquarters Hospital started in 1890, catering to a large cross section of the society. The timely and thoughtful generosity of the late Mrs. Philomina Dominic, Karippaparampil in donating a pay ward to this Government Hospital in memory of her husband the late Dominic Thommen should be remembered with gratitude. There are some other pay wards also donated by Lions club, Punnamparampil family etc.

The second hospital according to the chronological order is the Kadamapuzha hospital, started in 1938. Though it had a modest beginning, it is rendering meritorious service to the public. The founder of this hospital was the late Dr. K. E. Eapen, who is the Charter President of Rotary Club of Kanjirapally.

The Mary Queens Mission Hospital, Palambra had a rapid growth and stride beyond all expectations and is doing fine job in many ways. A nursing school is also attached to this hospital.

Kanjirapally lacked was an institution that could take care of the tuberculosis patients. Tuberculosis is a poor man's disease and it is a socio-economic problem as far as India is concerned. The Holly Cross sisters have established a T.B. sanitarium at Koovappally.

Rani hospital, Kanjirapally was established by the late Dr. M. C. Chandy and his wife Mrs. Dr. Achamma Chandy.

Mary Matha Hospital is a general hospital, owned and managed by Dr. Jose Kokkatt and his wife Mrs. (Dr.) Lizyamma Kokkatt.
